6/26/2016 0 Comments Choosing Every year our community hosts an event called LibertyFest. It starts around a week before the fourth of July and culminates with a wonderful fireworks display at the university on the evening of the fourth. There are events throughout the week leading up to the fourth that span interests from classic cars to water sports to indy music. It’s a lot of fun, if you get involved.
My family and I volunteer and partake in the activities every year. We enjoy the chance to participate in our community. We appreciate the low cost of events offered and relish the memories of the years we have spent involved in the activities offered. We make an effort to be part of the effort. It is so easy to get caught up in our own little pot of problems and stew. Putting yourself out there and getting involved in the world around you can help change your focus from the myopic, self-centered storm you are weathering right now. And sometimes shifting the spotlight from your own issues to the community at large can be just the thing you need to give yourself a fresh viewpoint or perspective. It’s like the people who say they just don’t have time to read their bible. The little bit of effort that is required to read the word every day can reap benefits beyond the imagination. When I concentrate on biblical truths, my problems fade. We choose what we invest our time in every day. We can choose to help our community or not. We can choose to read our bible or not. We can choose to dwell on our problems or not. We can choose to love others or judge others. Sometimes just realizing that we need to make a decision before the choice is presented the key. Making God the priority then others then myself before I go to bed tonight makes my plan for tomorrow a little easier. I don’t know what the day holds specifically, but I know who to turn to if it gets hard. I know who to thank when I think about my blessings. And I choose love even when I’m tired or sad or angry. Next year, I hope to be volunteering again, but only God knows if that will happen. Until that time, I will do what I can to help who I can while I can. ( It’s been a strange week hence the rambling post)
