The blessings of the Lord are abundant and glorious, even in the dark times. God gives us peace, serenity, and lavish joy; even when we don’t feel it. We should embrace his goodness instead of questioning it. My area of the U.S. is currently feeling the crushing blow of a sagging oil industry. A lot of people are in distress. Lay-offs are becoming the norm. There is so much turmoil in that one area that the ripples are starting to be felt in other industries. Budget shortfalls, cut-backs, and pink slips are in the news every night. It’s not just the wealthy oil barons who are feeling the pinch, its all of us.
It’s time like this that we truly turn to God and trust him with the outcome, or we worry. So often when things are going well, we lose sight of the fact that nothing is ever certain. When one part of the nation is doing well, another is tanking. Life is like that. It is series of ups and downs. But God is always consistent and his promises are always available to us if we ask.
I pray for my friends who are experiencing the brunt of this upheaval. I pray that they will claim the peace, serenity, and lavish joy that God offers even in the turbulence. His goodness is available even when the world is caving in, let’s reach out and claim it!
How about instead of turning on the news each evening with an impending sense of doom, we search out the good news offered to us in the bible. Instead of watching the headlines and wringing our hands in distress, why don’t we sing praises to the Lord and lift up out hands in prayer. God never guaranteed us an easy ride, but he does promise us strength for the journey. Now is the time to press into the fullness and goodness of God. And let’s not just cling to him like a last desperate measure, let’s celebrate His wonderful presence and his certain goodness even as we face an uncertain future. Claiming victory over circumstance, let’s pray for the abundance of blessings that he has promised to His believers. And KNOW he will provide, we only need to recognize the provision that he gives us. Give thanks for the days ahead and know He’s got this!
